Dr. Marek WILL be taking applicants for his lab for the 2023-2024 application cycle for SHSU's Ph.D. program.
The Psychological Assessment in Medical Settings Lab (PAMS) is directed by Dr. Ryan Marek. Our research group focuses on the assessment and understanding of personality and psychopathology across medical settings and eating disorders, particularly with the use of dimensional constructs and measures - notably the MMPI-3. We also study how various measures (e.g., eating disorder measures) perform with regards to their validity and structure. More specifically, our group conducts research in several areas:
Personality and Psychopathology Across Medical/Surgical Settings:
Health Psychology and Personality Assessment Emphasis: Many of the projects among our group are concerned with health populations or settings using some form of personality assessment. For instance, previous research has focused on the role of personality assessment in bariatric surgery and spine surgery settings. Our overarching goal is to understand how personality affects long-term recovery across numerous medical settings and eating disorder populations.
Dr. Marek will be accepting applicants for the 2023-2024 application cycle for SHSU's Ph.D. program.
Personality and Psychopathology Across Medical/Surgical Settings:
- Validation of both well-established (e.g., MMPI instruments) and emerging measures of psychopathology and personality.
- Understanding the structure of psychopathology and personality in medical/surgical settings.
- Predictive validity of pre-surgical psychosocial functioning to various surgical outcomes.
- Populations of interest include chronic pain, obesity, spine surgery, spinal cord stimulation, bariatric surgery, and solid organ transplant.
